Narrow design path with high standard

Serie production and fast commissions is not something to expect in Johan Argus Designs premises. The only path that is valid here is the narrow one containing specially designed furniture and décor. – We are more than an inventor workshop, Johan Argus explains.

“Sometimes the customers have wondered what you are up to. But we always want to create something unique and genuine that makes the product glow in its environment.”

The limits are practically non-existent when something shall be sketched, designed and produced at Johan Argus Design. As a customer you must be prepared to describe both the feeling as well as the impression that the finished product should convey.

- What do they like? Why do they want these exact products? Should it be stiff or soft? For me it is all about encountering the customers, create a relationship and on this basis interpret their visions, Johan Argus says.

FREEDOM AND FINISH

The seed that has grown to be an established design business were seeded by a then 18-year old Johan who got to take over a couple of machines from his grandpa’s carpentry workshop. They were moved to his childhood-home’s garage and a couple years later he took the step from a hobby carpenter to physical customer assignments.

- I nagged myself to any job and said yes to most of it. Special commissions is a narrow path to go and the standards are always high, but it’s the only path that works for me.

In the production premise just outside of Jönköping the machines sounds during the processing of a wooden table top. The commissions extend all the way from separate products such as dinner tables, chairs and glass stairs to complete restaurant furnishings where anything from the roof down are tailor-made.

- When you are given the freedom to create it is worth giving your whole soul into the process to make sure you get the right finish and details.

BRILLIANT END RESULT

The precision with details comes in many forms. A floor once had to be band sawed to a customer in Stockholm. To make sure the wood would end up with the right feeling Johan went to the sawmill to bend a single tooth on the sawblade.

- Sometimes the customers have wondered what you are up to. But we always want to create something unique and genuine that makes the product glow in its environment.

Choosing just one product Johan is extra satisfied with is not easy.

- The satisfaction lath is constantly rising and we almost never create the same thing twice. The few times we have done it always ends up being more developed the second time around.

You can not be afraid to lose, because I think then you will then stop to develop within the profession.
